Platform Expos Super Late Blog Update (With Pictures)

As is my usual style of making a blog on a notable event I have left it really late again. Still though, I took a few pictures and I guess I should validate even taking them by posting here.

As for the event itself though I really loved it. I hadn't heard about it until a month before it actually happened so I was positively surprised. I wouldn't say it held the exclusives Eurogamer has or reached the levels of creativity Gamecity in Nottingham had to offer but it was a nice gaming expos/festival nonetheless. It had a large focus on indie developers and had a nice inclusion of work from current and past University of Hull students which was nice to see.

Haven't updated this for a while now but there is a good reason! I've been setting myself a lot of time to enjoy the sun and read something I was handed during my applicant day to The University of Hull. It's a book about C# programming and as the time goes by (just over a month and a half until uni!) I feel like I really should read this. While I'm not new to programming as I started with C++ a few years ago there a lot of differences I need to learn about. This has a higher priority than my summer project but I will still be trying to get some of my project work finished. I will definitely completely my first bird's eye map of the top level before the end of the week.

At least I do not feel like I have too much time and not enough to do which was the worst thing about my last summer. I'm disappointed with how little I have done though. Time is just flying by which is a good thing I guess.

Station 9 Resources (With Pictures)

I've been busier than I expected to be with sorting things out for university (still really happy I'm going) for where I'm going to live and what money I'll have until then. Still though, I managed to create what is likely the least interesting aspect of Station 9 for a long while unless you're a sci-fi geek.

Basic Station Map (With Pictures)

Some actual progress despite the muggy heat having a huge hit on productivity. I have completed a very basic map of Station 9 giving a bit of information on the station and each of its levels. I gave plenty of thought to the amount of people that would be required to run such a large and versatile station.

Summer Project Finally Starting

My project for the summer holiday is to create a space station in a science fiction universe. The scale of the station is still yet to be decided. I will strive to update the blog at least once a week. While I do have a lot of free time I am only one person so completing this project will require dedication.

My current goal is to work towards a level design document. It is important that every stage of the project is done with making a game in mind. It will take time to plan everything right but once I have done it the payoff will be massive.

My First Post Into The Wild Unknown

Hello and welcome to my blog Sam Spain Makes Things. This is my new personal project blog for the summer holiday and university. My letter from The University of Hull and UCAS has arrived and I know for sure that I'm going to be doing Computer Science with Games Development (and a year industry placement). For now, at least, this blog won't have much to do about computer science or software engineering.

For the summer I am setting myself the task of a very ambitious project and I will be using this blog as a means to keep a weekly log about my progress. If you'd like to see any of my previous work you should check my college blog samspain.wordpress.com which really just existed for my tutors to mark my work. Some of the work I am really proud of though and I hope I achieve the same thing here.

More details of my project will come to light as I naturally expand upon the initial designs and ideas.

Thank you for checking in and I hope you enjoy looking at my future work.
